Recruiting your own competition isn't smart business strategy

One of the hallmarks of Multilevel Marketing, and why it is such a good moneymaker for the corporation but a terrible financial decision for 99.9 percent of the reps, is that reps recruit their competition.
There is no other industry where your ‘job’ is to get other people to sell the same thing as you in an already saturated market. Can you imagine going through a Starbucks line and having the barista suggest that you buy the store next door and sell coffee there?1
Standard companies and franchises do market research to know if a particular area has a demand for the products or services they sell. MLM’s do not do this, in fact, they thrive by not doing this do this. An MLM corporation benefits the more people sign up as reps, even if there is no market for them to sell products or recruit people themselves.
You might say, “Wait, you can’t sell or recruit into a system where everyone is already purchasing products from or recruited into that system, right?” But that doesn’t matter. Since MLMs are pay-to-play, the corporation already has your money as soon as you join. It doesn’t matter if you quit immediately or never sell a thing. They have zero interest in whether you make money because they make it regardless…from you. The longer you are unsuccessful (purchasing more than you sell, which 99.7 percent of reps do), the more the corporation makes2. THIS IS THE BUSINESS MODEL.
